Rajasthan: Fabrics and Arts

Our thoughtful driver Anoop knew that I was a textile designer.  He took it upon himself to take us to a fabric printing mill that he knew of in the desert.  The printed with hand-carved wooden blocks by hand.  They used pigments made from natural vegetables and herbs.
Next they were dried, then cut into individual panels.  They were laundered and left on the ground to dry.
Had this process changed in the last 400 hundred years?  Probably not.

Fatehpur Sikri: Mughal Splendor

This ancient fort and city began in 1570.  Built by Emperor Akbar.  It is an UNESCO World Heritage.  Artisans of many cultures worked on the structures here, which is why you see hints of Jain, Hindu and Islamic architecture.  Fatehpur Sikri on Wikpedia.
